THIS wall's more important...

Build the wall. / Don't build the wall.

It's good. / It's bad.

It's necessary. / It's mean.

It's common sense. / It won't work anyway.

You know, all this talk about walls makes me think about another wall that has already been built, and has been around for millennia. Granted, this one is more of a fence, but the idea is definitely the same. It's there to protect those who belong, and to keep those who don't, out:

John 10:1, 7-9 (NIV)

“Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber"... Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture..."

The thing about THIS fence is that it's impenetrable. You can't get over it by climbing, asking your Godly grandmother for a boost, or even taking a helicopter. You can't squeeze between the boards. You can't even dig a tunnel under the fence.

Sure, you may finagle your way into the pen as a "thief" or "robber". You may find a super-convincing sheep costume on Amazon for cheap with a Honey coupon. You may even watch YouTube tutorials on how to talk like a sheep, and trick a few folks into thinking you ARE a sheep.

But the fence isn't there to keep you from accessing the pen and standing next to the sheep.

It's there to keep you from accessing the SHEPHERD, and from BECOMING one of His sheep.

In this passage in John 10, Jesus declares Himself to be the only legitimate Way into the sheepfold. Without going through Jesus, you will never be freed from sin. You will never see Heaven. You will never fill "the hole in your soul" (that so many try to fill with various forms of garbage) because God PLACED that hole in you, and is the ONLY One Who can fill it.

So, as you will undoubtedly keep hearing about the proposed wall for the US border, think about the fence that has the power to keep you from the Good Shepherd and all His blessings, and from a secured eternity.

Because that's an issue that's infinitely more important.
